This past year our family signed up to be apart of the Passport to Success Family Connection program that Fellowship is doing with families in the Midtown area. We were linked up with with a precious family and we have really enjoyed getting to know Shaina and Cache.
Each month we'd meet together and have dinner, someone would share a Bible story then we'd discuss it together and visit about life application. My boys have really enjoyed talking and playing with Cache. After our suppers they'd go be crazy in the hallway, but isn't that what all kids do? What memories they're making!
We look forward to seeing these friends throughout the summer at baseball games the boys have and also coming to the Family Connection movie nights that they're going to do.
LaShauna and her team have done such an incredible job of mentoring these kids. To see a tiny portion of what they're learning has been rewarding. Last night the kids received awards for participating in the tutoring program.
They performed a song/chant that they've learned throughout the year that talks about how learning to read brings freedom and allows them to become successful. To see some of the mentors honored for volunteering of their time was fun. There are so many people who have given of their time and talents to invest in the lives of these precious kids. The thing that sticks out to me is how smiley and up beat this team of people always are. The kids love the Tyler Street Opportunity Center, one little girl shared several months back about how much she enjoyed being involved in this organization. With tear filled eyes she said, "it's one of my favorite places to be!"
To be a very tiny part of what they are doing there has been a priviledge!
Tyler Street Opportunity Center (TSOC) will eventually become the hub for serving children and families in South Midtown. Starting this fall, the Passport to Success After-School program and Family Connection will be moving from Franklin Elementary School into the new Tyler Street Opportunity Center. The TSOC will become the home of several International Student Ministry events as well as an expanded medical facilities for Shepherds Hope Neighborhood Health Center.
There is a lot going on at the TSOC, and its a ministry opportunity that the whole family can be apart of, if you're interested I would definitely check it out!
