Super Hero's

Two nights ago two adorable super hero's took over our house! They were "flyin" around, jumpin' off the furniture, "rescuing" me and pretty much just being the cutest thing I've seen! Here's a taste of what we got!

As for Peyton, we're not exactly sure what Super Hero he is...someone between "the Hulk" and "Wolverine" we're not quite sure...but have you ever seen a 5 year old with such big muscles or so much body hair for that matter?! :)

Weekend in Review: And He's Off!!

This weekend, for the fourth week in a row, we had a sick little one. Emerson was running 104 fever again on Friday night and woke up at 4 am screaming in pain. As soon as the Pediatrician's office opened I was calling to make another appointment. They got us in pretty quickly and Emerson had 104 when we got to the Dr's office and to quote what the doctor said, "His ears look very nasty!" Poor guy has a double ear infection and was really pretty miserable.

While Emerson slept it off the boys played outside with Daddy. First they played soccer then moved to baseball and bike riding. It was a beautiful day and they had a lot of fun!

Sunday, we just chilled out and recooperated. Adam led us in "family church" and the boys really enjoyed that. Then I got to catch up on some things around the house while Adam took the boys to play at the park...then we played several rounds of Headbanz (which I must say is super fun) and then worked several Thomas the Train and Curious George puzzles as well, the boys really enjoyed all their playing time with Dad this weekend, no one was ready for Monday to come, we were having way too good of a time!

And last but not least, we all enjoyed getting to see Emerson finally take his first steps! After he got some practice, Adam grabbed the camera and here's what he got!

Bath Time Is a Fun Time!

My kiddos LOVE bath time...and on those special nights when we add lots of bubbles to the water, they go crazy! So here are some pics from our most recent splash time!

Scrump-didili-umptious: Chicken Pot Pie

I got this recipe from Southern Living's January Issue, and its FABULOUS! My family absolutely loved it! This is a definite repeater!

Here's the ingredients you'll need:
1/3 C butter
1/3 C all purpose flour
1 1/2 C chicken broth
1 1/2 C milk
1 1/2tsp Creole seasoning
2 Tbsp butter
1 large sweet onion, diced
1 (8oz) pkg sliced fresh mushrooms
4 C shredded cooked chicken (1 Rotisserie chicken, and it's fabulous!)
2 C frozen shredded hashbrowns
1 C matchstick carrots
1 C frozen peas
1/3 C chopped fresh parsley
1 box pie crust (with 2 crusts)
1 egg white

Directions:
Prepare Filling: Preheat oven to 350 degrees, Melt 1/3 C butter in large saucepan over medium heat; add all purpose flour, and cook, whisking constantly, 1 minute. Gradually add chicken broth and milk, and cook, whisking constantly 6-7 minutes or until thickened and bubbly. Remove from heat, and stir in Creole seasoning,



Melt 2 Tbsp butter in large Dutch oven over medium-high heat; add onion and mushrooms, and saute 10 minutes or until tender. Stir in chicken, next 4 ingredients and sauce.


Prepare crust in lightly greased cast iron skillet (I used a pie pan).


Spoon the chicken mixture over piecrust, and top with remaining crust.

Whisk egg white until foamy; brush top of piecrust with egg white, cut 4 or 5 slits in the top for steam to escape.

Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour to 1 hour and 5 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly, and enjoy! As you can see, my family sure did!

Hippity Hoppity...Spring's Coming!

I decided to go ahead and break out my Easter/Spring Time decor...the weather has been BEAUTIFUL and so spring like (though today is quite cold and rainy...boo!) Anyway, thought I'd show you what I've got out so far.

Here's what greet's you at our front door...I got this basket with my Mom last spring at a little shop in Homewood called Four Seasons Antiques, Art and Botanicals...its such a cute shop and has things at a decent price. We got the hydrangeas there as well, we like to pay a little more for more realistic looking flowers but were able to pick up the fern and other greenery from one of my favorite stores, Hobby Lobby! Mom, it looks great, thanks for helping me with it!


This is the center piece on our kitchen table...I got the stand up bunnies from Hobby Lobby several years back, added a little burlap that I had extra from a project I did in the fall then used Easter grass and painted wooden eggs to finish it off.


As for the TV console...I got the idea for this arrangement from HERE. It was pretty affordable...I got the little terra cotta pots at Home Depot for less then a $1 each, I got the daffodills for 70 cents a piece, added some mando grass here and there, then covered the top of each with some Spanish Moss. I had some extra speckled eggs that I added to a few of the little pots as well, I have it all sitting on a cupcake stand that I picked up at Target. All in all I thought it turned out pretty cute.


Now if I can remember to put the arrangement outside every so often since it is real flowers and is supposed to get sun! We'll see how long this lasts! : )

The other side has my apothocary jars that are filled with speckled eggs and pastel jelly beans, I'm having a hard time telling the kiddos they are just for decoration, and not a constant snacking trough, more then once I've caught Peyton pulling a chair over to the piece of furniture so he can get a little snack, and as I'm typing this I realize that the bathroom step stool is over there now, a little friend must've snuck a few more! : )

So there's a little peek into what's getting us into the Spring Spirit! Hope y'all are having a Hippity Hoppity Friday! Peyton's not feeling all that well today so we're having a pajama and movie day...currently we're watching Toy Story 2, its sure to be a great day with this combo!

Birthday Camp Out!

Friday, March 2nd was Lawson's birthday, though we had celebrated with friends and family already, we wanted to celebrate his 3 precious little years as a family. So we asked him what he wanted to have for dinner and he very quickly announced "I want to have pizza and ice cream!" So when Adam came home from work we took off to try a new pizza place. I don't have any pictures of that dinner because it was literally all hands on deck...the boys ate almost every cracker they had in the bowl on the counter as we waited for our pizzas, every time Adam got up to get something he had two little "helpers" to assist him...it seemed like Lawson was all over the small pizzaria. Luckily there were only 2 other families in the restaurant at the time, because Emerson, who's normally an easy going little guy, was extremely high maintenance with his newly found loud voice, he was happy, but not content. We couldn't cut up his banana, pizza or shovel the apple sauce in fast enough! Adam and I literally just scarfed our food down and decided we should just head home and make our own ice cream sundaes as opposed to visiting the ice cream shop next door! We were exhausted, and ready to take our little posse home, a friend of mine calls this time in our life "the black out period", and though we like to get out and go places, I have to admit, yes, it's so much easier to eat at home!

Here's some picture of the craziness that took place once we were home. Lawson got a pop-up tent for his birthday and he decided he wanted to "wear" it so he was running around the house wearing his "Thomas tent" and brandishing his "sword" which happens to be an attachment to the vacuum cleaner, what an imagination he has!


And while we were cleaning up from our tastey dessert here's what Emerson was doing...ahhh, gotta love it, notice the pure delight on his face!


We make tents out of blankets and furniture a lot so Adam and I had the idea to set up our camping tent in the guest room and let the boys have a "camp out" down there. They thought that was a great idea! They slept well and made a really fun memory!

All in all, it was a good night filled with memories made! Adam and I enjoyed some popcorn and a movie, we finally watched Larry Crowne!

1st Bunkbed Incident plus a LOT of discipline

Oh man, well the day started off pretty good, it was only 7:30 though, I was getting the boys dressed and Adam had headed out the door for work. I was tying Peyton's shoes sitting on the floor in front of their bunkbed when all of a sudden, "PLOP", there was Lawson in a crumpled heap laying on the floor. Well, it finally happened, they've been in bunk beds for over a year now and he finally fell off the top, the likely hood of that happening, while he was trying to carry a small Hoover vacuum up to the top bunk, is pretty high I guess. Though he had no cuts or scraps and seemed to be fine after some cuddling and back rubbing, I told him, "lets not try to vacuum up on the bed, its meant to be down on the carpet, ok Buddy?" To which he responded with a humble and understanding "ok Mom". We've talked about not standing up on the top bunk or even playing up there, its just a place to sleep and nap...but some lessons just have to be learned the hard way...and for some it takes longer to learn then others, which leads me to my next point of the day!


I only had Lawson and Emerson today because Peyton goes to school (Tues, Wed, Thurs). Anyway, so I've had a lot of time with the littlest ones, and I don't know if its just a phase, I sure hope so, or if this is an indication of how this whole year (of being 3) will be, but Lawson has been incredibly whinny today. Whinny about EVERYTHING. You know what its like, we're at Target trying to get a few things and every aisle its, "I want those Oreos", "I want that flashlight", "I want to go home", "I want to get out and walk"...blah, blah, blah. Thankfully God has given me the grace to be patient with it today but I have to say right now it's grating on my nerves! I feel like a broken record because all day, seriously, ALL DAY, I've been saying the same few lines and quoting the same scripture to him, asking him, "Lawson, how do you sound right now? The tone of your voice is very whinny, not a big boy voice. What does the Bible say about whining?" To which he knows the answer: "Do everything without grumbling and complaining, so you may become blameless and pure, children of God..." He certainly knows the answer, but we've still done lots of time out and he's had 3 good spankings so far, and its just 2:30 in the afternoon.

Some days are just hard, but all day long, as I've been teaching and disciplining, this thought keeps coming to my mind, that I'm showing him how to react, teaching him what is appropriate behavior and how to respond to things in a god pleasing manner. I want him (and all my kids) to learn self control, its something we all have to practice and exhibit our entire life, so they might as well go ahead and learn this lesson early! In order to not focus on just the negatives of today I decided to look for a few "happy face" pictures to leave you and myself with...I love these little faces and am so grateful that God has entrusted these precious little people to me! May God be glorified in my weaknesses as I try to do what He's called me to do each and every day, and until He returns, I'll be solely dependent on His grace, mercy, love and big doses of His patience!!
