The table was set in a shades of turquoise and white with some mermaid accents that I just happened to snag from the 75% off sale rack at none other then Kroger, isn't that where everyone who needs mermaid statues goes to find them? I didn't have any healthy food items in this party spread, it was all full of pure sugary goodness. We had Princess Pearls (which were lemon cookies in the shape of shells with icing that held a Sixlet for the pearl), Seaweed (which was green sugar coated candy sticks), Dinglehoppers (simple cake balls rolled in white chocolate bark with coral, shell and seahorse edible accents), turquoise jellybeans and Ocean Water to sip on (which was just blue Hawaiian punch mixed with Sprite). Of course there was a birthday cake to round out the whole menu. I've never tried to do a stacked fondant cake before but I thought I would give it a go this time. It leaned just slightly but I still thought it turned out pretty good.
This party was really fun to plan and put together. Ava Jane has been over the moon about it and asked literally every day, "when is my Ariel party Mom?"
But once the special guest actually arrived, she was quite shy and a bit standoffish toward The Little Mermaid. It took a lot of coaxing to get her to even step toward her once she arrived .
The girls got to listen to Ariel tell her story! And Ava Jane LOVED hearing Ariel sing all those familiar tunes.
Ava Jane was mesmerized by the singing. And she loved the rose that Ariel gave her.
Each of the girls received gold wishing dust stamps on their hands, and when asked, none of them could remember what they wished for or they chose not to share what it was they had wished for...I think it was simply because they were star struck by the presence of the famous mermaid.
The next activity was dancing to Under the Sea while bubbles floated all around. Each little mermaid enjoyed twirling and spinning to the music.
We then took pictures with the princess. Ava Jane was still a little tentative but she did it!
And of course they made the fish face!
Happy happy birthday sweet baby girl! Hope you enjoyed your party on the ocean floor to celebrate you turning f-o-u-r!!
What an adorable bunch of water loving, fin wearing, shell covering cuties. I'm thankful for all the little friendships that are forming for Ava Jane, and pray that there are some life long friendships among these girls!
